Our personalized and parent-centric methodology focuses on supporting and educating aspiring respite foster parents, allowing us to create stable and nurturing environments for children. Our respite foster parent program benefits include:
- Continuous education: We provide continuous training to ensure parents are equipped with the knowledge to provide great care to the children.
- Incentivized training program: We offer additional stipends to respite foster parents pursuing over 40 hours of annual training, showing our commitment to professional and personal growth.
- Schedule flexibility: Our respite care foster parents have flexibility with their own schedules. They’re free to set limits on how many foster children they care for and how many nights per month they are available, whether it is three, 10, or 14 nights.
- Regular check-ins and support: We work with a qualified Counselor or Child-Parent Advocate for regular visits and counseling services.
- Financial transparency: We implement transparent financial protocols, ensuring respite foster parents receive monthly reimbursements appropriate for the children’s individual needs.
- Comprehensive support: In addition to educational and financial support, we offer psychological services and other exclusive VIP perks for respite foster parents.
How to Become a Respite Foster Parent With Knotts Family Agency
California requires respite foster parent applicants to meet the following criteria:
- Minimum age of 21 years
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
- No disqualifying criminal history
- At least one extra bedroom for the foster child or children
- No minimum income requirements, but must be able to manage their own expenses

Do You Get Paid for Respite Foster Care?
Respite care providers receive a stipend or reimbursement for the nights they care for a child. This meaningful compensation allows respite care providers to attend to the children’s needs while giving foster parents time to rest, self-nurture, or settle their personal affairs. On a case-by-case basis, we offer an additional bonus or incentive that is higher than the regular nightly rate. If you agree not to turn down any respite request, we may also offer an incentive.
