Ways to Help Children in Hesperia
There’s more than one way to make a difference in a child’s life.
Foster care gives children the consistent, stable home they need to heal and grow. When you commit to becoming a foster family in Hesperia, KFA guides you through every step of the Resource Family Approval (RFA) process, from application and home assessment to background checks, training, and family evaluation. We match you with children whose needs align with your strengths and home environment.
In California, resource parent and foster parent refer to the same approval. The RFA process prepares you to foster and foster-adopt within a single framework. If a child in your care becomes eligible for adoption, you won’t need to restart the approval process. As a licensed adoption center in Hesperia, KFA holds an adoption license that many foster family agencies do not. This makes us a fully qualified partner for the complete foster-adopt journey.
Respite care in Hesperia, CA, is a short-term option for those who want to give back without a long-term commitment. You care for a child for short periods, generally no more than 14 nights, and you set your own availability each month. You’re reimbursed at the same rate as standard resource parents. We always need more respite care homes in the area.
How We Support Foster Parents in Hesperia
Here’s how our philosophy and services set us apart.
Our Philosophy
Most foster family agencies center the child as their primary client. At KFA, the foster parent is. This distinction shapes every policy, program, and interaction we have with you. It’s why KFA is one of the fastest-growing foster agencies in California.
Unwavering Support
KFA understands that emergencies do not always occur during office hours. That’s why our dedicated personnel are available 24/7 to respond to any situation. Social workers carry out regular home visits, reducing your need to travel. We also advocate on your behalf throughout the placement process so your voice is heard and you are considered for future placements.
Financial Integrity
KFA proactively monitors state rates and typically provides reimbursements that exceed the California state minimum. California’s Foster Family Agency reimbursement rates currently range from $1,000 to $2,609 per month based on the child’s age. Our Intensive Services Foster Care (ISFC) program can reach up to $6,000 per month for one child. We also offer up to $450 through our Resource Family Approval Assistance Fund for minor home preparation costs.
Exclusive Benefits
To our knowledge, KFA is the only foster family agency that provides resource parents with exclusive access to their own dedicated counselor or psychologist. Our Very Important Parent (VIP) program includes spa treatments, massages, Parent Night Out, Date Night Packages, Wellness Days, and Self-Care Packages. Through our “Get Paid to Get Trained” program, completing 40 or more hours of training annually may qualify you for additional stipends.
Your Questions, Answered
Questions are natural, and answering every one of them is our job.
What if I Can’t Handle Challenging Child Behaviors?
This is one of the most common concerns we hear, and one of the most understandable. KFA equips you with:
Specialized training in behavioral management and trauma-informed care.
24/7 social worker support for behavioral emergencies.
Connections to child behavioral specialists as needed.
Our Get Paid to Get Trained program also keeps your skills sharp over time.
What if I’m Worried About the Emotional Toll of Attachment and Goodbyes?
This concern is deeply human, and we never minimize it. What we will say is this — the love and stability you give a child, even temporarily, makes a permanent difference in their life. KFA provides counseling services and support groups specifically for foster parents navigating these emotions. To our knowledge, we are the only foster family agency that gives resource parents exclusive access to their own dedicated counselor.
Is My House Big Enough, and Is the Process Too Complex?
Regarding home size, KFA conducts personalized home assessments to help you understand exactly what’s needed, and our Resource Family Approval Assistance Fund provides up to $450 for minor home repairs. Regarding process complexity, we offer orientations six times per week on Mondays and Wednesdays (10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m.), with walk-ins welcome.
Your Local Hesperia and San Bernardino County Resource Guide
Knowing our community means knowing how best to serve it.
The Specific Needs of Children in Hesperia
The area is 62.7% Hispanic, with 22.2% of residents between the ages of 5 and 17. This means there is demand for bilingual and culturally aligned foster homes where children can maintain their language and cultural connections during placement.
San Bernardino County’s (SBC) foster care entry rate is 3.2 per 1,000 children, 52% above the California statewide average of 2.1. Only 54.5% of foster children in SBC are placed with all siblings, the lowest sibling-placement rate among neighboring counties. In 2025, 1,743 children entered foster care countywide. Families open to sibling groups are urgently needed.
Our Partnerships With SBC Family Services and Courts
Knotts Family Agency is an officially listed partner Foster Family Agency with SBC Children and Family Services (CFS). Placement decisions are made by SBC CFS social workers and the Juvenile Courts. KFA works directly within this system to coordinate cases and advocate for foster parents throughout the process.
We guide prospective foster parents through every RFA requirement in full coordination with county standards.
