Be an Adoptive Parent
Changing and Shaping Lives
It has been said that Adoptions is the ultimate expression of love. Parents who adopt are volunteering to bring in a child into their home to love and care for them permanently and indefinitely.
Adopting is a very serious proposition, one that you are likely to consider for a while before making a final decision. At Knotts Family Agency we specialize in providing you with the resources and support needed as you make the decision to adopt a child and we guide you through the process.
Something you will see different in us from the very beginning is that we offer individually tailored person-centered support. For example, while other agencies will likely schedule you for an orientation, instead of waiting for the next available group “orientation”, with Knotts Family Agency you can also schedule a one-on-one consultation, either at the office, or in the comfort of your home.
We recognize that people have different reasons for wanting to adopt. Some come to us saying they wish to adopt because they cannot have children. Others wish to adopt because they want to expand their family. Others suggest that they want a child to play with their birth children. Not all reasons are created equal, but regardless of your reason, we will treat you with utmost respect, professionalism, privacy, and confidentiality.
We know the process to a final adoption can be daunting, confusing, frustrating, and filled with anxiety, but ultimately, the reward is an overwhelming feeling of joy and satisfaction. We will support you through those moments that you feel that no progress is being made and will keep you informed every step of the way.
The adoptions process has many steps but we work with you throughout. Most importantly, we always work with a high sense of urgency. We believe those interested in adoptions should not have to wait weeks to know whether a document was received. Instead of focusing on paper work, although important, we want prospective parents to focus on getting ready to bring a child into their home.
Very importantly, you will have 24/7 access to specialized Family Support Coaches, whose main responsibility is to ensure that you are moving along in the process and will advocate for you every step of the way. We do everything possible to limit surprises along the way, that’s why we use a proprietary system that allows you the parent to see which documents have been processed or which ones are still pending. You have complete ownership of the process and can visualize what is needed. You can then work to upload or submit the necessary information as quickly as possible. There is a great sense of joy as you see each step is automatically checked off the minute you upload a document, which means one step closer to getting a child in your home.

Below are some questions that are frequently asked in regards to adoptions. Feel free to contact us, with any additional question.
1) How is adoption different from foster care?
a. Adoption is a process that leads to permanently gaining legal custody of a child. Whereas foster care is generally a temporary placement of a child with a family.
2) How do I find a child to adopt?
a. You’re already on the right track. Give us a call at 909-880-0600 and we’ll help you identify a child that’s right for you.
3) What ages are the children who are available for adoption?
a. The children’s ages vary but are generally between 0 and 17. It can take considerably longer to adopt an infant since there are usually wait-lists for infant adoptions.
4) Can I adopt as a single parent?
a. Yes, as long as you can provide a loving, stable, home for the child you will not be disqualified just because you’re single. About one in four successful adoptions are completed by single parents.
5) Can I adopt a child if I rent my home rather than own it?
a. Yes, again, love and stability are the primary considerations. There’s no problem with renting your home as long as you have a suitable bedroom available for the child.
6) Will I receive financial assistance for the child?
a. Financial assistance is available in some circumstances. You may also be eligible for a tax credit of up to $13,400. Consult with your tax expert. Medical assistance may also be available in certain cases. You’ll need to speak with an adoption representative for information relating to your specific case.
7) Can we adopt a child if both parents have full-time jobs?
a. Yes. But sufficient childcare arrangements will be required while you’re at work.
We know that there are dozens of other potential questions you’ll need answers to. That’s why the first and best step is for you to complete the contact form below or give us a call and speak with one of our friendly adoption representatives.
